Families,
Please continue checking the Solon website for all important information. The main page has been updated with the at-home learning opportunities for each Solon school. I attached the info below so you are informed.
Tomorrow, the district's "communication day", I will be posting the daily assignments on my classroom calendar for each school day we are missing. Your child will not be given any assignments to complete during our regularly scheduled spring break week. Be sure to check the website frequently while we are off.
Here are the minimum daily expectations:
- Reading: Read for a minimum of 20 minutes daily. This simply continues our normal expectations, but with missing the full hour of reading at school each day, the importance of reading at home is key to maintaining the current reading level and skills. The children love reading on Bookflix so I added directions to get to Bookflix through the Solon website. Do NOT just type in Bookflix in your search because you are then required to have a username and password. Your child can also read books on Stories Online – the link is also on my class website under Helpful Resources. Scholastic has also created many lessons to help parents continue supporting their children at home throughout this extended break. I looked through the site and it is wonderful. Here is the link.
- Getting to Bookflix through the Solon website:
- Go to solonschools.org
- Click on students in the top bar
- Click on Media Center Resources
- Click on INFOhio on the left
- Click on INFOhio in the center of the page
- Click on the K-5 purple box
- Click on Bookflix
- ENJOY READING!
- Math: Work on the math packet throughout our break. You can also review lessons and play in the Game Center on the pearsonrealize.com website. If you need a log in sheet with your child's login information, please let me know. There are also so many links on my website under Helpful Resources. This is a great time to play the structuring games and other math games that are listed. I attached the apps for your reference again.
- Writing: The writing prompts are in the Literacy packet. I will also post each prompt on my class calendar. Please review your child’s writing daily to ensure your child is writing in complete sentences and includes details and craft for each prompt. This is not busy work. This is a time for your child to practice all he/she has learned in writing. Help your child revise the daily writing to ensure it includes correct capitalization, punctuation, spacing, letter formation, etc.
- Word Study: We have two lessons for your child to work on for the two school weeks we are missing class. Lesson 48 is to be completed the first five days and sort 49 for the following two days. The online sorts and activities will be posted for your child to complete on pearsonrealize.com tomorrow.
So many fun learning opportunities to help your child stay motivated and engaged with his/her at home learning over the next three weeks. If you have any questions, please email. May you all stay safe and well.
Thank you,
Miss Harper

At-Home Learning Opportunities Message to Families - March 13
These are certainly unchartered times. The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic is creating challenges and disruption for all families. Our entire Solon Schools team is working as quickly as possible to implement our plans for continued learning during this unexpected and mandated school closure. Our buildings will be closed but student learning will continue.
At every level, our administrative team, curriculum leads and classroom teachers have been creating lessons and resources for student learning opportunities at home. This is a fluid situation and we will build on and alter our plans as this situation unfolds.
Our Solon spring break will go on for students as scheduled from March 20-27. At home learning opportunities will be available for students on March 18-19 and again March 30 to April 3.
Additionally, the district’s Nutrition & Food Services Department is planning for the continuation of the National School Lunch Program to ensure there is no interruption of meal service to students who need it. Details on the meal service will be communicated to families on Monday.
While the buildings are closed, our custodial team will be sanitizing and disinfecting every building to be ready for when students return.
Monday, March 16, is a regular school day and the end of 3rd quarter for all Solon Schools.
FOR EACH SCHOOL:
Solon High School students need to take home their Chromebooks and chargers as well as all books and educational materials they need for every class. SHS students will continue to see assignments, lessons and class information from their teachers in Google Classroom. If students have questions about any material, they should email their teachers or use the method of communication teachers requested students use to connect with them during this time away from the building. For our students with disabilities, their interventionists and related service personnel will provide them with learning opportunities through email to complete at home that are aligned to their goals.
Our technology team will provide support for students who experience issues with their Chromebooks during office hours at the Arthur Road School building from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 18, 20, 30 and April 2.
Students will not have any access to Solon High School once they leave at the end of the day on Monday until schools are permitted back in session.
