Tryout Information - Spring, 2022

Hello Men’s Tennis Comets!

GREETINGS !

Let me just start by saying that I am expecting to Coach the best Boys Varsity Team since I joined Solon. With six returning Varsity players and a few up & coming JV players and incoming Freshman, we should, in theory be a very competitive and strong team in Ohio.

As of today, we are exactly 41 days away from Try-outs which is set for Monday, March 7, weather permitting. It is important that you all work on your strength & conditioning, as we gear up for our season. On this note, you will have a timed mile (4 laps around the track) to set the stage in the first week of try-outs. But remember, the best way to improve your tennis conditioning is by actually playing tennis.

Regarding the Try-out format, each match will be a 5 games only with Add Scoring. However, if the game score stands at 2-2, a 7 point tie-breaker will be played. Expect to play 4-5 mini-matches per day. All games counts into the final tally. Depending on how many players signs-up, I may organize flights (A, B, C, D) with one or two returning Varsity Players in each flight, with 4 players moving into the Varsity Draw, thus 16 players. As of now, 8 players will make Varsity.

The most important point and in order to participate on the Boys Tennis Try-outs, you will need to bring in your updated physical to Joy Cardinale in the Athletic Office, Room 99, or email to joycecardinale@solonboe.org before March 7. Basically, all tennis participants must appear ALL IN GREEN onto Final Forms. Please make sure to sign-up for “Boys Tennis” into FF, as well.

For your information, we are still adding a few matches to our upcoming schedule which is now posted on www.solonschools.org.  Depending on the weather, please be advised that some of our matches may be postponed. Needless to say, we will have a fully loaded schedule with quality teams such as University School, Orange (D2 State Champions) and some teams from Columbus.

On a final note, feel free to reach out to me should you have any further questions! Texting may be best… More information will be forthcoming as we come closer to March 7.

Looking forward to our upcoming Season!
Be Well and Stay Safe!
