Comets close regular season with 8-0 victory over Euclid
Through intermittent showers on a blustery evening, the Comets travelled to Euclid and defeated the Euclid Panthers 8-0 last night.
This game marked the varsity debut for Rachel Passerallo (who wears #3), Sam Taylor (#8), Lauren Tomasetti (#20), and Lily Scherer (#12), who were added to the roster for the OHSAA playoffs. Those four joined Alyse Harris (#23), Sydney Carlton (#11) and Hailyn Shuster (#21), who have been bubbling between JV and varsity.
Three Comets scored their first varsity goals last night—Sam Taylor, Alyse Harris and senior Jordan Ellman who took a ball up the right side blowing past two Panther defenders and driving it to the top corner past the keeper.
The other Comets goals were scored by Macarah Morgan (who had a hat trick bringing her season total to 6 goals), Farren Lesko, and Jacklyn Rzepka.
This Comets team does not score a ton of goals and most of the scoring to this point of the season has been from Carley Goldberg and Alli Maersch. It has to be viewed as a positive development that so many other players are putting the ball in the net. In fact, Farren and Jackie have now scored in back-to-back games.
The Comets open their playoff run on Thursday, October 18 at 7:00 pm against Nordonia at Stewart Field. Solon was awarded the #4 seed in the sectional/district bracket and Nordonia is the #5 seed. The other side of the sectional bracket has Twinsburg as the #1 seed and Twinsburg will play the winner of the Kent Roosevelt (#8) v. Cuyahoga Falls (#9) game.
