Two of the top female golfers in recent Solon history are carrying significant high school success over into their collegiate careers.
University of Mount Union junior Rachel Markle (SHS 2015) took home medalist honors at the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship at River Greens Golf Club. Markle shot a 241 (84-78-79) which was five shots clear of the second-place competitor. Mount Union set an OAC tournament record and won the team competition for the fourth consecutive season. In doing so, the team received an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships May 14-17 at Bay Oaks Golf Club in Houston, Texas.
Columbia University first-year Jennifer Wang (SHS 2018) became just the third player in school history to earn First Team All-Ivy League honors. Wang finished in second place with a four-over-par 70-77-73-220 at the 2019 Ivy League Women's Golf Championship. She finished just two strokes behind individual leader Elizabeth Wang of Harvard, who concluded the invite at two-over-par 218. Wang entered the final day of competition with a one-stroke lead and led the field throughout the first two days. She finished the three-day championship with eight birdies, 34 pars and led the field in par-5 scoring (4.80), third in the field in par-4 scoring (4.25) and seventh in the field in par-3 scoring (3.07).
