Weekly Update - Thank You Families
May 7, 2021
Dear Solon Schools Families,
On this final day of staff appreciation week, we want to turn the tables and thank each of you for your partnership this year. As our strategic plan states: We believe education is a partnership of the student, home, school and community. The value of that partnership has never been more apparent or important than over the past 14 months of the pandemic. Everyone in the Solon Schools community is grateful for your support.
Our COVID-19 case data continues to stay very low. Over the past week, we had only two staff members and one student test positive.
We are looking ahead to an expansion in vaccine eligibility for more of our students once the Pfizer vaccine receives the anticipated FDA use authorization for children ages 12-15. We will continue to share vaccine clinic availabilities for our students and family members 16 and over as well as new opportunities to include students 12 and over as soon as possible.
We have already been in preliminary planning discussions for a first dose student and family member vaccination clinic with University Hospitals-Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and our PSI (our school health clinic partner) on our upcoming professional day, May 21. The second dose clinic would be three weeks later on June 11. We will send an interest survey to families at the beginning of next week. (This clinic would include students 12 and over provided the FDA authorization for children ages 12-15 is finalized before that date.)
Vaccinations of our staff, parents and Solon High School students is providing an additional layer of safety for all of the upcoming end-of-year events. Our students are looking forward to Commencement, Prom, Field Days, Survivor Days, Clap Outs, an Amazing Race and more. Plans include options for virtual students to participate in these events.
The end of May and first week of June will be a celebratory closure to the 2020-21 school year. Please be advised that the SHS Class of 2021 will graduate in our stadium on May 27. The preparations for that event will require the stadium and track to be closed to the public May 24-29.
Have a very happy Mother’s Day weekend.
