SHS Return to School With Hybrid Schedule October 19

As we prepare for our hybrid learning model that will begin October 19, it is important to share pertinent information families and students will need for a smooth transition.  Most of this information applies to in-person learners, but I ask that all virtual students read through the information as well.  Because in just a few short weeks, all students will be asked to make a decision about in-person or virtual learning for 2nd semester and we want you to have a clear picture of what in school learning will look like.  Additionally, later next week I will send a video to all students and families that highlights some of the procedures outlined here as well as how students will move throughout the building.  As always, if you have questions, please contact me directly.

  • We will NOT be assigning any students a locker this year.  If your child would like a locker, please click here to complete the form https://forms.gle/xRMHYpq7muEFbTZP8
  • Students will be assigned lockers in a socially distanced manner. Please note, students will be able to request a locker at any time throughout the year.
  • Those students who request a locker are required to purchase an approved SHS lock through EZPay for $18.  Students are ONLY permitted to use school-issued locks on their lockers. Students are allowed to use the school-purchased lock from the previous academic year.

HALLWAY TRAFFIC AND MOVEMENT

  • We have designated 3 stairwells as UP ONLY and 4 stairwells as DOWN ONLY.  These are clearly marked.
  • Students will be asked to ONLY walk on the RIGHT side of the hallway in single file when possible when travelling from class to class.
  • Students will NOT be permitted to linger in the halls or socialize in the halls between classes.
  • We have added two minutes to passing times to account for the extra time students will need to get from class to class.  If we determine this needs to be adjusted after the first few weeks of the school year, we will certainly make the appropriate adjustments.
  • Again, students will NOT be permitted to visit their lockers between classes.

LUNCH

  • ALL students will eat during 4C IN their 5AB class.  We have added 10 minutes to our lunch period so students have time to purchase a bagged lunch from the 7 Food Service Kiosks that will be located throughout the building.
  • Students will NOT be permitted to linger in the halls or socialize outside of their 4C lunch - 5AB class.
  • Students will be able to bring their own lunch or purchase a school lunch.  Families will be asked to pre-order a school lunch in advance for the week so our Food Service staff can plan accordingly.  More information will follow on details of this process.
  • Our Excel TECC students who have a different lunch period/location will receive direct information from their counselor.

 JUNIOR/SENIOR BLOCKOUT LUNCH

  • Those juniors and seniors who have study hall 4th or 5th period and completed the required paperwork in August will be permitted to leave the school campus for their extended lunch period.
  • Students must vacate the building immediately and must return in time for their next scheduled class.
  • Failure to do so, or any other violation of our Code of Conduct during Blockout Lunch will result in disciplinary action.
  • Please remember this option was created to increase space in the building. We urge students to go directly home for lunch and to not congregate.

 STUDY HALL

  • There is NO Senior Commons this year. Juniors and Seniors will be assigned to quiet study hall in the cafeteria.
  • Freshmen and Sophomores will be assigned to quiet study hall in the underclass study hall.
