Weekly Update for January 7 - Continuing Enhanced Protocols

January 7, 2022

Our cases of COVID-19 among students and staff members have not increased significantly coming out of the holiday break. So far this week, we have 90 students and 11 staff members with COVID-19. This still includes some individuals who tested positive during the second week of break but reported their results to the school upon our return. Although we anticipated a potential post-holiday spike, our numbers have remained relatively stable with a slight dip, mirroring current data for 44139, Cuyahoga County and the COVID projection models from Case Western Reserve University.

This latest surge has presented new and different challenges. Our goal remains to keep our students learning in person. We have been able to maintain our staffing levels districtwide to be sure students are getting the instruction and support they need. The CDC, ODH, CCBH and Ohio’s children’s hospitals have all expressed the importance of in-person learning for the cognitive, social and emotional well-being of students. As we communicated last week, we are maintaining our enhanced safety protocols (increased masking, distancing, ventilation, hand washing/sanitizing, reduced capacity at events) until this wave subsides.

Thank you to the many families who have already submitted the Student COVID-19 Vaccination Survey. The information is very helpful to our team when contact tracing. The survey is still open and we know many families were waiting to complete the survey following the second dose and booster clinic at the Community Center and new approval of the booster for students 12-15.
