Weekly Update for November 12 - Spike in Cases
This week, our school community experienced a significant spike in reported cases of COVID-19, with 28 students and 4 staff members testing positive. This is the highest number of confirmed positive cases in a week to date this year. The increase was not unexpected following Halloween festivities and the majority of impacted students are in grades Pre-K to 6, who remain unvaccinated at this time. This surge in cases reflects the tripling of confirmed cases in the 44139 area last week.
Because this high number of cases is largely occurring in our student population that is just beginning to be vaccinated, we will continue our current indoor masking requirements at all schools. As a reminder, through the Mask to Stay exclusion/quarantine protocol, students and staff members identified as direct close contacts of someone with COVID-19 may continue attending school provided they wear a mask for 14 days. This option ONLY applies to exposures that occur in a school setting.
We are still working on a vaccine clinic for students through our health clinic partner, PSI. In the meantime, families may want to consider using the online scheduling tool provided by the Ohio Department of Health to assist in making vaccination appointments beyond pediatrician offices. Additionally, for families looking to learn more about the vaccine, resources and information are available in an Updated Frequently Asked Questions section on the Ohio Department of Health website.
Stay safe and have a nice weekend.
