Mid-April Update & Rx Take Back Day
After a relatively stable period following our spring holidays, we are now seeing an uptick in COVID-19 cases this week. We have had 13 reported student cases and one staff member testing positive. The most recent data from Cuyahoga County shows cases in the community at large are starting to go down and we hope this trend carries over to our school community as well.
Thank you for all you are doing to act as role models in adhering to public health protocols at all times. Please remember not to send students to school if they are feeling ill, exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, or if you, your child or someone in your household has tested positive or is awaiting COVID-19 test results. Our end-of-year activities are not far off and we want ALL students to be able to participate.
Several important programs were not possible last year due to the pandemic. Tomorrow marks the return of the spring Prescription Drug Take Back Day. We urge you to take a few minutes tonight or tomorrow morning to look through your cabinets and drawers for expired or unused medications and drop them off between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Solon Senior Senior Center. This program protects students as well as the environment. For more information, read the informational release below.
Have a nice weekend.
National Rx Drug Take Back Day:
Help Protect Against Accidental Overdoses and Student Access to Addicting Medications
Prescription drug abuse can be a gateway to less expensive – but more dangerous – drugs.
This is why it is so important for families to get unused medications out of the house if they are expired or no longer in use. An easy way to accomplish this and protect against children and teens accessing potentially dangerous and addictive drugs is to participate in Solon’s spring National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Residents may simply drive up to the Solon Senior Center (35000 Portz Parkway) and drop off unneeded or expired medications. Properly disposing of unused prescription drugs also protects the water supply.
This confidential program makes it easy and safe to dispose of medications. No personal information is collected and you may scratch out the name and other identifying information on the bottle with a marker or remove all prescription labels before dropping off the medication.
The Solon Police Department participates in the DEA Rx Drop Box program yearround and has a medication drop box in the lobby of the police department headquarters. Residents may use that drop box at any time during the year to dispose of prescription pills. No liquids or needles can be deposited at the police department drop box or during this weekend’s drop off.
Thank you for taking this easy step to help keep children and teens safely away from unused prescription drugs.
