First Week Back from Winter Break
January 8, 2021
Dear Solon Families,
As we complete our first week back from winter break, it is clear that the decision we made to be all remote this week was necessary. Since Monday, we have reports of 18 students and 13 staff members with COVID-19. By building in this virtual week, we have prevented additional students and staff from having to quarantine due to exposure.
We are looking forward to welcoming back our students who have selected in-person learning for second semester on Monday, January 11, as scheduled. If you or your child have been exposed to COVID-19 or are experiencing any COVID-like symptoms, do not send your student to school in person next week. As always, call your school right away to report positive cases and exposures in your household.
Our goal remains to keep in-person learning for all students whose families have selected that option. While new guidelines for quarantine procedures were announced this week, we have decided to maintain the existing protocols while we work with our state and local boards of health on implementation. Any family may choose to switch their student to virtual learning for the remainder of the semester at any time by contacting your building principal. This is still a semester commitment, but if conditions warrant it, we may consider additional options later in the year.
The Governor has prioritized school personnel to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in districts that are providing in-person instruction. Our current instructional models qualify Solon personnel to receive the vaccine. Even with this news, the start of school staff vaccinations are still several weeks away. With transmission rates in our area remaining so high, it is more important than ever that we all adhere to the necessary protocols to keep everyone safe and healthy so our schools can remain open for in-person learning.
