Post-Thanksgiving Update and December 18 K-6 Professional Day
COVID-19 cases continue to reflect the rising incidence in our community. To help with staffing challenges for end-of-quarter planning, Friday, December 18, will now be a K-6 professional day. There will be no school for our K-6 students only. Students in grades 7-12 will be in session for classes and midterm exams virtually that day as currently scheduled.

Update
Exponential growth of COVID-19 is happening in our area and impacting our schools. Since Friday, we have had eight additional students and staff members test positive and 86 more need to quarantine. SHS and SMS have moved to remote learning due to COVID-19 related staffing issues and we are trying to avoid this for our other schools. If COVID-19 cases and exposures over the holiday warrant it, further communication will be forthcoming.

Update Leading Into Thanksgiving
It has been made clear that decision-making regarding education during this pandemic remains at the local level with the Solon City School district. Our plans this year have always been about striking the balance of safety, learning and the social-emotional well being of our students, families and staff. Looking ahead, we have made several important decisions for the remainder of the first semester.

Fall Play is All Live Stream!
Solon High School presents The Tempest, the 2020 fall play. To ensure the safety of student performers and crew as well as audience members, The Tempest will be live streamed only. The actors will be protected with specially designed masks incorporated into their costumes. Join us in this galaxy far, far away via live stream for any of the four performances: November 19-21 at 7 p.m. and November 22 at 2 p.m. Viewing “tickets” are $10 at shsdrama.org/tickets.

COVID-19 Update and Looking Ahead
The purpose of this communication is to update you on current conditions in our schools. We also want to explain the possibility of a return to remote learning at some or all of our schools should the need arise. Our intention is to maintain in-person learning, but some circumstances are beyond our control.
