Student Absences
Every Day Counts!
Regular attendance is an important part of your child’s success in school. When students are in class each day, they build strong relationships, develop critical skills and stay on track academically.
For questions about attendance or absence reporting, please reach out to your child’s school office.
Attendance Requirements
Students ages 6-17 are required to be enrolled in and regularly attend school in Ohio. Legitimate excuses for being absent from school are:
- Personal illness or medically necessary leave
- Illness in the family necessitating the child's presence, as confirmed by a physician
- Quarantine of the home
- Death in the family (3 days maximum absent -showing of reasonable cause for longer)
- Necessary work at home due to parent/guardian's absence/incapacity (10 days maximum)
- Observation of bona fide religious holidays
- Absence due to professional appointments
- Service as a precinct officer in a primary, special or general election
- College visitation
- Out-of-state travel to participate in District-approved enrichment or extra-curricular activities
Extended Absences
Parents and guardians must notify their child's school if their child will be absent from school due to vacations or excused reasons not listed above in advance of the unexcused absence. Parents will need to sign a Notice of Truancy Risk Form from the school prior to the unexcused absence. Students in grades 5-12 will be responsible for notifying all of their teachers about the absence.
To notify the school and obtain the risk form, parents and guardians should email the school and include the student's name, grade, dates of the pending unexcused absence and the reason for absence. Correspondence should be sent to:
