Kindergarten Registration
ONLINE PORTAL OPENS MARCH 3.
CALLING THE SOLON COMETS CLASS OF 2038!
WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING ALL OUR NEW COMET FAMILIES!
The Solon Schools are getting ready to welcome the Comets Class of 2038 with the launch of centralized Kindergarten Registration for fall 2025. Families with students who will be kindergarten age in the fall should mark their calendars with the important dates for Kindergarten Information Night and Kindergarten Registration.
Kindergarten Information Night - a virtual program on February 26 at 6:15 p.m. Kindergarten in Solon Schools is at Lewis, Parkside and Roxbury Elementary Schools. All three schools have full-day kindergarten, but decisions about which school would have half-day sections and whether those sections will be in the morning or afternoon cannot be determined until after the kindergarten registration process is complete.
District centralized online Kindergarten Registration - Monday, March 3, through Friday, March 14. The link to the online registration portal will go live on March 3 on the district website. Families must complete their child’s registration during the spring centralized registration window March 3-14 to be guaranteed kindergarten placement at their home school.
Kindergarten enrollment numbers are a key data point for appropriate planning and staffing next year, so it is critical that families register their students for kindergarten during the March registration window. Residents are urged to remind friends and neighbors who have students approaching kindergarten age to attend Kindergarten Information Night and register their students online March 3-14.
As a reminder, beginning with the 2025-26 school year, students must be 5 years old on or before August 1 to be eligible for regular entrance into kindergarten in the Solon City Schools. This change was adopted last year and based on several years of data collection and analysis.
Students who turn 5 after August 1 will be eligible for the early entrance assessment process in accordance with state laws and district policy. In rare instances, young children who are born after the deadline of August 1 are advanced in academic skills, personal development and emotional maturity. However, very few children who are referred for Early Entrance meet the rigorous entrance criteria. Families whose students turn 5 after August 1 are encouraged to make appropriate preschool/childcare accommodations for the 2025-26 school year and plan for their students to enter kindergarten in the fall of 2026.
Information about the Early Entrance process will be posted on the district website beginning on Kindergarten Information Night.
To learn more about kindergarten in the Solon Schools, watch the Welcome to Kindergarten presentation. The program will be taped and posted after the meeting on February 26.
