When is the registration window for the 2026-27 school year?

The Solon City School District centralized online Kindergarten Registration is open Monday, March 2, through Friday, March 13. The link to the online registration portal is now OPEN! Families must complete their child’s registration during the spring centralized registration window March 2-13 to be guaranteed kindergarten placement at their home school.

Kindergarten enrollment numbers are a key data point for appropriate planning and staffing next year, so it is critical that families register their students for kindergarten during the March registration window.

What are the age requirements for kindergarten in Solon City Schools?

Beginning with the 2026-27 school year, students must be 5 years old on or before the first day of school for kindergarten students to be eligible for regular entrance into kindergarten in the Solon City Schools. For 2026-27 in Solon, students must be 5 by August 21, 2026.

This change is the result of a new state law, House Bill 114, which changed how kindergarten eligibility is determined across the state. All Ohio districts must now follow a uniform age requirement based on the first day of school.

Students who turn 5 after August 21 will be eligible for the early entrance assessment process in accordance with state laws and district policy. (For more information, please refer to the Early Entrance Assessment process section below.)

What documents and medical forms will I need to register my child?

Use the Kindergarten Registration Tips & Checklist to prepare and gather the documents you’ll need to upload during the online registration process. Please note that some proof of residency requirements have changed. Even if you have previously registered a child with the district, review the instructions carefully. Expired IDs cannot be accepted.

If your student’s well-child visit is scheduled for summer, please upload current records now. Updated immunization records and medical forms can be provided at the start of school. Sharing what you have now helps district nurses prepare for the upcoming year.

How do I submit an action plan for my child’s medical condition?

If your child requires an action plan for a specific health condition, please have it signed by your child’s physician or health care provider after July 1, 2026. Ohio law requires a new form each school year, dated no earlier than July 1.

Action plans should be turned in to your school’s office or clinic at the beginning of the school year. Physical forms and immunization records should be submitted now or as soon as possible before the start of school.

What is the Early Entrance Assessment process?

Early entrance is a form of grade acceleration for children who turn 5 after August 21, 2026. In accordance with state law and district policy, students who do not meet the standard age requirement may request consideration through a formal assessment process.

Very few children meet the rigorous criteria for early entrance. Families whose students turn 5 after August 21 are encouraged to make appropriate preschool/childcare accommodations for the 2026-27 school year and plan for their students to enter kindergarten in the fall of 2027.

Who is eligible?

Students who turn 5 after August 21, 2026 may request an Early Entrance assessment.

Families are encouraged to carefully consider the long-term academic and social impact of this decision, as it affects a child throughout their entire school experience.

What does the assessment evaluate?

The Early Entrance assessment measures:

Intellectual ability (IQ)
Kindergarten readiness skills
Social and emotional maturity, including attention span, independence, ability to follow directions, cooperation and peer interaction

What steps must families complete?

Submit the required Early Entrance Interest Form between March 2-31, 2026.
Complete online kindergarten registration using Early Entrance Code EEK2627 to move through the age validator.
Ensure registration is completed and approved prior to May 1 for testing to be scheduled.
Complete the parent questionnaire and scheduled testing.

Process and Timeline

May 4-June 18: Testing completed and families notified

I am new to the district. How do I register my child for kindergarten for the current 2025-26 school year?

We welcome kindergarten registrations for the 2025-26 school year at any time. Please note that placement at your home school is not guaranteed.

Students are added to any potential home school waitlist in the order that completed registrations are submitted with all required information. To maximize your chances of home school placement, we encourage you to register as soon as possible.
