Mr. Joseph M. Ferencie

Mr. Ferencie is a 1992 alumnus of Solon High School and he is the sole member of the Technology & Engineering Department. In his 17th year of teaching, he greatly enjoys challenging students to think in ways they are not used to and asking them to design solutions to problems.
 
He has been the designer and technical director for the SHS Drama Club since 1998 and Music In Motion since 2010. He is the Manager of SHS's TV station, Solon Education Television and coordinates Comet Productions, the student production team that films SHS sports and concerts.
 
He spent five years as Lead of Technical Services at Sea World of Ohio, supervising installation and maintenance of park audio, visual, effect and laser systems. He also worked as a Replay and Headset Technician for Major League Baseball for four seasons. He is an amateur expert on World War II, and in his “free time”enjoys backpacking, camping and watching baseball, football and spending time with his wife, Heather, and their sons, Joseph, Grant and Daniel.

AutoCAD I

Students will complete all drawings on the PC's in computer lab 185. Students can also create a FREE student account and download AutoCAD onto a home PC. Be warned...this program is large and takes time to download/install. Students should use their solonschools.net email address at this link: Autodesk Educational. We will be using AutoCAD 2023 in class.

AutoCAD II

Engineering Applications

Students will need a folder to store handouts and materials to take notes. The Engineering Design process will be taught along with aspects of the major engineering disciplines. Students will use these skills to design solutions to modern-day problems.

Graphic Arts

Students will be learning to Airbrush first quarter and silkscreen second quarter. All materials and tools are provided in class. No class supplies are required. However, students may choose to bring in an "Art Shirt" from home to protect their clothing from the paints we will be using. The shirt can be stored in the classroom. 

Production Technology

Students will need a folder to store handouts and materials to take notes. Students will learn various components and systems use them to design their own productions. 

Robotics

Students will use Robot kits provided in class. Arduino programming will occur during the second half of class in the 185 computer lab. A USB drive may be used to save programs. 

Woods & Home Construction Technology

Students will need a folder or binder to collect the notes and handouts provided in class. For work in the Woodshop, students will need to wear appropriate clothing. No loose clothing or open toed shoes. Students with long hair will need to bring a method for tying it back. Safety glasses will be provided.
