About EduTyping Secondary Curriculum In the EduTyping Secondary keyboarding curriculum, students complete keyboarding lessons within the Foundation Units introducing them to all the keys of the alphanumeric keyboard. Beginning with Alphabetic Keys and Symbols, these lessons begin by guiding students to master home row technique and proper finger placement. Students learn and practice two new keys in each lesson as they systematically target reach keys progressing outward from the home row. Upon completion of the Alphabetic Keys and Symbols unit, students should progress to the Numbers & Symbols unit covering the number and symbol keys located on the top row. If instructional time allows, students in Grades 9–12 may progress to the Numeric Keypad unit as a supplement to the other Foundation Units.
After completing all of the lessons in the Alphabetic Keys and Symbols, students may complete the available reinforcement lessons in the Practice Library and Making Headlines units. These lessons offer students extra keyboarding practice utilizing keys from each row. The articles in this unit are written with fun, interesting, and age-appropriate content across a variety of topics that relate to middle school students.
30-second and 1-minute Timed Tests are also included to measure students' typing speed and accuracy. Partial Timed Writings should be given upon completion of each group of lessons within the Alphabetic Keys and Symbols unit, while Complete Timed Writings should be given after completing the entire Alphabetic Keys and Symbols unit.
Additionally, the EduTyping Secondary keyboarding curriculum includes a series of units in the Workplace and Technology Skills section. In Professionalism in the Workplace, students learn key workplace skills like time management and collaboration. These lessons include downloadable, hands-on activity worksheet packets that reinforce the material covered using a variety of supporting activities and are designed to be completed offline. The remaining units include lessons designed to help students become proficient in foundational technology skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. These units feature downloadable lessons where students work offline (using Microsoft Office, Google Apps, or any equivalent software) to demonstrate the skills presented in each lesson. The lessons in the Workplace and Technology Skills section do not require keyboarding proficiency and may be assigned at any point in your course.
