College Credit Plus Information Session is February 18

Solon High School is hosting an information session on the College Credit Plus Program on Thursday, February 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the SHS auditorium. This program is mandatory for families and students in grades 7-12 planning to take college courses next year that can count toward high school and college credit.

Solon High School counselors and College Credit Plus representatives from local colleges and universities will be on hand to present information to students and their parents about options for taking college courses through the College Credit Plus Program.


2015-16 Solon Middle School Comet Card Now Available

The new Solon Middle School PTA Comet Cards for 2015-16 are ready for purchase. The savings cards provide offers from 15 area merchants: Akira, Buffalo Wild Wings, D & R Bagels, Dunkin’ Donuts, Freeway Lanes, Gionino's Pizza, Grantwood Golf Course, Menchie’s, Nailtique, Oasis Yoga Spa, UpScaleIT, Very Berry Smoothie, Which Wich? And White Flour Cake Shoppe.

The card is an SMS PTA fundraiser that provides discounts and free items at area restaurants and other merchants. The card may be used unlimited times throughout the year. It is only $10 and is good through November 2016.

The Comet Card makes a perfect gift for teens and college students as well. Just pop one in their wallet and they are ready to start saving themselves.

SMS Yearbooks are on sale now! Take advantage of “early bird” pricing and save $10.00 off the final price of the yearbook. Ordering early allows for accurate order numbers and the best pricing. Take a look at our online pricing schedule:

If book is ordered now until October 31st - $35.00
If book is ordered between November 1st and January 31st- $40.00
If book is ordered between February 1st and March 1st - $45.00
To order the 2015-16 SMS yearbook, please use the following step-by-step instructions:
1. Go to www.YearbookOrderCenter.com
3. On “Yearbook Order Center” page, enter SMS school code number "3491" and then click “ENTER”.
4. On the “Welcome Solon Middle School” page, Select "Buy a Yearbook, Yearbook packages…” and then click “Continue with Order”
5. Pay for item(s) in your cart via Credit card, check, debit card, etc.

Yearbooks will be delivered to students at school in late May. Extra yearbooks will not be available for purchase in May.

The 2015-16 school year events calendar is here. All families will receive a copy in the mail at the beginning of August, but to begin your planning now, a color pdf file of this year's calendar is posted here for your convenience.

Summer Reading: Don't Experience a Summer Slide!

All Solon students are encouraged to read over the summer. There are specific requirements and suggestions for all grade levels.

It is important to have fun and engage in creative activities over the summer break, but maintaining reading is critical to continued academic growth and achievement.

> Students in grades K-4 should read at least 500 minutes this summer. A summer reading calendar is posted below and on each elementary home page to help students track their minutes.

> Students in grades 5-6 should read at least 1,000 pages this summer.

> Students in grades 7-8 must read at least one fiction and one non-fiction book of their own choosing.

> Students in grades 9-12 should read books of their own choosing as well as the required readings for individual classes as posted on the SHS site. Please be sure to check back at the end of June for specific assignments that may accompany high school readings.

Annual Art Show & Reception Showcases Student Creativity

The creative works of Solon art students will be on exhibit during the annual show on May 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Solon High School atrium.

The artwork, created by students in grades 7-12, includes a wide variety of genres from photography, painting, drawing, ceramics, graphic design, wood and furniture crafts, jewelry and more.

Work from all middle and high school art classes – Drawing I, Drawing II, Painting I, Ceramics I, Ceramics II, Photography I, Photography II, Computer Graphics I, Computer Graphics II, Advanced studio, Advanced Graphic, AP studio, AP 3-D and AP 2-D – will be on exhibit.
