Annual Art Show & Reception Showcases Student CreativityThursday, May 21, 2015
The creative works of Solon art students will be on exhibit during the annual show on May 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Solon High School atrium.
The artwork, created by students in grades 7-12, includes a wide variety of genres from photography, painting, drawing, ceramics, graphic design, wood and furniture crafts, jewelry and more.
Work from all middle and high school art classes – Drawing I, Drawing II, Painting I, Ceramics I, Ceramics II, Photography I, Photography II, Computer Graphics I, Computer Graphics II, Advanced studio, Advanced Graphic, AP studio, AP 3-D and AP 2-D – will be on exhibit.
Solon Middle School Science Olympiad Team Wins 2015 National ChampionshipSunday, May 17, 2015
Recording the lowest score ever, the Solon Middle School Science Olympiad team earned first place and national champion honors tonight at the 2015 national tournament at the University of Nebraska. It is Solon Middle School’s seventh national championship in the last eight years.
SMS team members medaled in 13 of the tournament’s 23 events en route to the first place trophy, earning a total low score of 152 and finishing 42 points ahead of the second place team and last year’s champion, Beckendorff Junior High from Texas.
“We are thrilled that our Solon Middle School team has won the Science Olympiad national championship once again,” said SMS Principal Eugenia Green. “The hard work and dedication of these students and their coaches is second to none. This accomplishment shines a spotlight for academic excellence on our students and district. Solon students have consistently performed at the highest level in Science Olympiad. Congratulations to the team members from SMS, Orchard Middle School and Solon High School, as well as our Solon science teachers, the volunteer coaches and the parents of these talented students.
SMS PTA Comet Cards Still Available and Now Only $5Tuesday, May 05, 2015
The Solon Middle School PTA has a few Comet Cards remaining and has cut the price to $5.
These cards make great gifts for students to save at some of the places they already go. Adults can take advantage of the savings as well.

SMS PTA Offers Pre-Ordered School Supply Program for Fall 2015Thursday, April 30, 2015
The Solon Middle School PTA provides on online school supply order program as a convenience for families.
The voluntary program allows families to place an order for needed supplies and have the supplies delivered directly to their homes. The SMS 2015-16 order program through Innisbrook is under way now.

Solon High School Summer Reading List for Next Year's Freshman ClassThursday, April 30, 2015
The Solon High School summer reading list for 2015 is hot off the press! This listing includes all of the books students will need to read during the summer in preparation for many of the high school’s English and social studies classes in the fall of 2015.
The books marked with an * will have an accompanying assignment to be completed during the summer. Those assignments will be posted on the high school website in June.
All of the books on the summer reading list are available at any book store, but for students’ convenience, they may submit the form below with payment and the Solon Academic Boosters Club will order the books and have them ready for pick up before the end of the school year.
Orders and payment must be returned to the SMS office by Monday, May 4. Checks should be made payable to the Solon Board of Education. Cash is also accepted.Resources: SHS Summer Reading List for 2015

Solon Future Problem Solvers Earn Trophies at the State BowlThursday, April 23, 2015
Defending their “home turf,” Solon’s Orchard, Solon Middle School and Solon High School Future Problem Solving teams and individual competitors competing in the State Bowl won 13 trophies in four different competitions.
Fourteen Solon students qualified for the International Competition at Iowa State University in June: Jake Adelstein, Ryan Ebenstein, Alex Fan and Lauren Tucker (SHS); Lea Kim, Alison Xin, Timothy Yi, Albert Zhu, Julia Fan, Neha Gupta, Sandy Shen, Rachel Wilson and Nicholas Kernan (SMS); and Natalie Miller (Orchard).
“I am so proud of all of our Solon competitors,” said Sabrina Tirpak, Solon FPS advisor. “The hard work and commitment show in the success our teams demonstrated throughout the competition.”
Overall, Solon students won the following awards at states:
