SOLON STUDENTS EARN OHIO’S #1 STATE ACHIEVEMENT REPORT CARD FOR 2016
In an environment of increasing academic rigor for students, Solon students for the second year in a row earned the state of Ohio’s #1 report card for achievement. Solon is one of only two districts in Ohio to receive an A grade for achievement. All seven Solon schools are in the top 50 statewide for student achievement among public non-charter schools.
Although scores statewide were down significantly this year due to higher standards on state assessments and more challenging curriculum, Solon students continued to achieve at the highest level in the state.
Specifically, the Solon Schools earned the state’s highest achievement score, with a performance index of 110.6.
Solon’s high achievement ranking statewide is the result of district-wide fidelity to classroom best practices and curriculum that is tightly aligned to Ohio’s learning standards. Solon’s 2016 state report card reflects student knowledge in skills and core content.
“Ohio’s learning standards continue to raise expectations for students,” said Solon Schools’ Superintendent Joseph Regano. “Our Solon state report card demonstrates that students are meeting these higher standards aimed at preparing them for the future. Congratulations to our students, staff, families and community on these excellence results.”
Rigor is important to ensure students are prepared for college and the workforce. The standards focus on the most important concepts, issues and ideas as well as ways of communicating, reasoning and investigating within each subject area.
In Solon, classroom instruction continues to change to help students find success in meeting the increased rigor of the standards. Students engage in active learning that includes critical thinking, analyzing, reasoning and applying their knowledge, as well as providing evidence to support ideas. These skills are key in students becoming independent, critical thinkers.
