Staff Walking/Activity Program

A Need for a Healthy Lifestyle

In Solon City School’s Wellness Policy, a commitment has been made to expand staff access to wellness programs. A healthy lifestyle provides important modeling for our students, but also can play a role in preventing disease and illnesses. Tobacco use, poor eating habits, inadequate physical activity, and being overweight are four health risk factors that are preventable. In addition to their impact on cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes, at least one of these risk factors, inadequate physical activity, is known to reduce levels of stress. It is the desire of Solon Schools to provide support for all employees in maintaining and improving their health profile.

How does the Solon Schools Walking Program work?

  1. – Note that if you’re already a participant, there’s no need to re-register every season.
  2. Start walking – or jogging, or running!
  3. to track your progress Online!
  4. Feel happier and healthier!

OCTOBER 1ST -THE WALKING / ACTIVITY PLAN KICK-OFF

To help with personal wellness goals, we would like to encourage all Solon City School employees to participate in a walking / activity program. The kick-off date for this program is Monday, October 1st, but registration can take place before or after this date. We are asking each staff member who walks or engages in some form of activity beyond the normal work day to record the number of minutes on our Solon City Schools website. Current minutes of exercise can be counted toward these totals, but participants are encouraged to find ways to increase their minutes beyond their previous goals. As part of this initiative, walking or any other form of physical activity (biking, swimming, jogging, dancing, kayaking, weight conditioning, etc.) can be recorded on the walking / activity online log. Upon registering to be part of the walking / activity program, each participant will receive a pedometer, lanyard, Wellness Passport, and T-Shirt.
