Revolution in the Arts
During the 1800's there were rapid changes in society. One of the changes was the growth of a large middle class with new found leisure time. This new middle class used its extra money and time to support the arts. Within this society artists found inspiration to break from the established artistic styles and to create a new form of art. These styles became known as Romanticism, Realism, Symbolism, and Impressionism.
