Sonnet Computer Projects

You will select a Shakespearean sonnet for analysis and complete a computer project based on this analysis. You will be identifying the theme, or message, of the sonnet. In a well-developed paragraph (definitely go for at least 10 sentences), you will discuss how this theme is developed throughout the sonnet, with an emphasis on figurative language. In your discussion you should include mention of the following:

·        imagery

·        metaphors and similes

·        personification

·        allusion

·        a discussion of the turn of the sonnet

You will include at least 4 sets of exact words from the original sonnet.

You will record one of your group members reading your paragraph. Then, you will insert it into a Powerpoint project, in which you will include pictures and excerpts of your paragraph. The pictures may be scanned and/or copied from the Internet.

To Help You Understand Your Sonnet:

ü     Use the notes that accompany the sonnet

ü     Look up any words you do not understand

ü     Read through to the punctuation marks; don’t just read the piece “line by line”

ü     Look for symbolism and METAPHOR (they’re EVERYWHERE)

ü     Look for inverted word order. For example:

·        “I know not what I do” really means “I don’t know what I do”

·        “I never saw that they did vacation need” really means that “I never saw/thought that they needed a vacation”

Requirements

·        7-slide minimum Power Point presentation

·        a title slide

·        a slide displaying the sonnet

·        a slide displaying the entire paragraph

·        4 slides displaying excerpts of your paragraph

·        7 pictures: either scanned or copied from the Internet

·        a voice recording of the written paragraph

On each slide

ü     Create a new background for each slide. DO NOT USE A TEMPLATE.

ü     USE CORRECT SPELLING – It doesn’t matter if the misspelled word is on a paper or a slide – it’s still wrong and indicates carelessness on your part.

ü     At least one picture PER SLIDE

ü     Be aware of the color contrasts you select – the type and the backgrounds must not be too similar, as it makes it difficult for the reader.

ü     Make an effective use of your space; not every inch of the slide needs to be filled. The audience should not be overwhelmed when viewing your presentation.

ü     Use a watermark on AT LEAST ONE SLIDE

ü     Use animation on all slides. Be sure to see how the timing works (I don’t want to be waiting for something to appear; similarly, we don’t want things disappearing prematurely).

You will be graded on the following:

ü     The paragraph (will be given a rubric score)

ü     The presentation and its requirements

You will need to make a voice recording for each slide in which you intend to include sound.  For instance, if you intend to have your voice play on 3 slides, you need to make 3 different recordings.

***IMPORTANT***

When you turn in your project, you must turn in a FOLDER,

with the following:

ü         Your PowerPoint presentation

ü         Any sound files you create when you record

Name the ENTIRE folder with your last names.
