Romeo and Juliet

In the aftermath of the recent tragedy in which Romeo and Juliet took their lives in a double suicide, the City Council of Verona has commissioned five special task forces:

· Teen Suicide

· Problems in Family Relationships

· Peer Relationships

· Hate Crimes

· Teen Love

· Decision Making / Listening to Advice

You have been nominated to serve on the __________________ task force. Your committee will (1) investigate the causes of the tragedy in light of your committee’s issue and (2) make recommendations to the Council on how to prevent such events in the future.

In order to accomplish these two tasks, your committee will create 2 videos: 1 that demonstrates an example of the topic of your task force in the text (e.g., teen suicide, hate crimes, etc.), and 1 that illustrates a productive way in which this situation could have been handled.

Format for each video: a dramatic segment and an analytical segment. The analytical segment will demonstrate your understanding of the connection between your task force topic and the textual example.

The final product will take the form of a VHS tape of 4-8 minutes in length.

Criteria:

1. Story board: outlines the use of video, resources, and text

2. Textual support:

§ analyzes how the issue contributes to the downfall

3. Research: consults valid resources on the topic

4. Recommendations: feasible, practical for the play and for today

5. Presentation: logical, intuitive presentation of issues

6. Originality: significant inventiveness; ideas are fresh, original
