A Picture Says a Thousand Words:

A Study in Character Development

After having read and discussed a variety of short stories in this unit, we have met a number of strong and complex characters.  Our next task will involve a study in character development by taking what we know about the character from the story and asking how the character would respond in real life situations.  Choose one character, a character with enough importance and depth, from any of the short stories and answer three of the following questions.

  1. What are the character’s recreational activities and/or cultural interests?
  2. How would the character react to a verbal insult?
  3. How would the character respond to witnessing a violent crime or a hate crime?
  4. How would the character react to being confronted with homelessness?
  5. What is the character’s philosophy of life?
  6. What is the character’s favorite quote?
  7. What is the character’s favorite TV show?
  8. What is the character’s favorite song, poem or book?  Pick only one.
  9. Who is the character’s hero?
  10. What is the character’s stand on the death penalty?
