March minutes stand approved

Treasurer: Cindy Koenig
• Cash balance: $30,568.54
• YTD report, net income is $3,172.23
• Have made $3,000-$4,000 in net income each of the last few years.
• Filed for audit

Vice President: Vicki Gibbons Nothing to report

Vice President: Terry Brownlow
• The summer reading list was emailed to parents as an attachment (which not everyone could open). It’s also included on the high school webpage under SHS News.

President: Beth Eidnier
• Academic Teams:
o The lunch went well. The seniors liked their gift certificates from Chipotle. Should we continue gift certificates since we do not do this for other groups? The cost was $360 this year with 36 seniors. This should be discussed next year during budgets; there are pros and cons. Plaques were given last year at approximately the same cost ($10 per person).
o The school added the Chess Team at the last minute, which added 13 people.
o More tables are needed next year because more decided stayed to eat.
o Thank Nancy Veto for her help in determining the food order and Carol Telljohann for setting up.
o There were approximately 30 kids that did not come. DiBellas was good to work with.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Academic Awards: everything has been ordered.
Academic Teams: The lunch, gift cards & certificates cost approximately $1,000.
Book Sales – please encourage people to purchase summer books through Academic Boosters.
Corporate Membership:
• To date the number is $710
• Beth E. will follow up with PTA; aggressive After Prom soliciting has depleted the funds that companies allocate to Solon schools donations, which has had an impact on ABC corporate fundraising as well as other school organizations.
Grocery Certificates: There are $475 in Giant Eagle gift certificates left, no more will be purchased this school year.
Membership: No change from last month
Rising Star: The next event is April 30
Scholarships:
• Grading is due April 25
• We received 54 academic, 3 vocational applications
• Gary does not need to be there to give the scholarship in his name.
Shining Star:
• The certificates for senior are going into the seniors’ classrooms on May 12 – the teachers like to acknowledge the kids. The last day is May 14 for those doing senior project.
Strive for .5 SHS: The next event is May 7
Strive for .5 SMS: The next event is coming up soon

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Election of Officers:
• Vicki Gibbons made the motion, the vote was unanimous. The following will be the 2008-2009 officers:
o President: Ellen Lim
o Vice President: Marianne Horvath
o Vice President: Terry Brownlow
o Secretary: Beth Bickel
o Treasurer: Lisa Thomas

FPS Bowl:
• Lisa Thomas & Nancy Veto did an excellent job organizing and managing the concessions stand, including getting all the food.
• The Solon students pre-ordered 70 meals, which was very helpful.
• Biggest problem –everyone has to eat at the same time in less than 1hour, unlike Science Olympiad. Slow service has been a problem with concessions stands at other schools, so most schools either bring bag lunches or subs/trays.
• We have been told that if we hosted it again next year, other schools will want to preorder food.
• Solon Schools did a very good job.
• At the peak time there were 14 people working. Only 1 National Honors Society volunteer helped.
• If asked to do this again – it would be easier to do with experience.
• Athletic Boosters bought some leftover food, which was helpful.
• Out net income was approximately $645. Science Olympiad made more money in 1 day (approximately $2,000) because the timing during the day worked better.
• Lisa & Nancy may consider doing it again next year.

NEW BUSINESS

Speech & Debate:
• They may be hosting an event in the fall. They will let Beth E. know their plans before the end of May. They may ask us to do a concessions stand.

Next Meeting: Wednesday, May 21 at Mavis Winkle’s in Twinsburg at 7pm.

Adjourned: 8:45
