NCTM Illuminations - 10 Frames Thinking about numbers using frames of 10 is a conceptual way to learn basic number facts through 20. The five games that can be played will help to develop addition skills.

New Zealand Math

An array of activities put together by New Zealand's Ministry of Education
MathWords Useful site for math terms.

Concentration

This game can be used to match numbers, shapes, fractions, or multiplication facts to equivalent representations.

The Counting Game

This is an interactive website for helping develop counting by various multiples.

How Many Under the Shell

After Okta hides some bubbles under a shell, he then either adds more bubbles or takes some away. Students have to determine how many bubbles are left under the shell.

Structuring How Many

Combining 2 sets to find total. Choose dice patterns, bead rack, finger patterns, or several others.

How Many Under the Shell

Practice subtraction.

Rabbit Takeaway

Subtract from 10 or 20.

Subtraction Line

Use a number line as support to practice subtraction facts.

Whale Bonds

Find the section of pipe that will make 10. Useful for structuring all parts of 10.

Apps

Common Core

View the Common Core State Standards in one convenient FREE app! A great reference for students, parents, and teachers to easily read and understand the core standards. Quickly find standards by subject, grade, and subject category (domain/cluster). This app includes Math standards K-12 and Language Arts standards K-12. Math standards include both traditional and integrated pathways (as outlined in Appendix A of the common core) and synthesizes Language Arts standards with the Corresponding College and Career Readiness Standards (CCR's).

GA Spinner

GA-Spinner is the essential tool to bring standard board games into the computer age. GA-Spinner provides a configurable, automatic, and audible spinner to complement your favorite games. Games with spinners or single dice games can be configured and played.

Montessori Countning Board
All in all, the Montessori Counting Board is the most exciting educational game that helps your child to rapidly learn how to count by sight, sound, and touch. The interface is so easy to use that even a 6 month old baby will delight in using this app. Ideal for ages 0 to 6.

Math Concentration By yourself or against a friend, match whole numbers, shapes, fractions, or multiplication facts to equivalent representations. Practice with the clear panes or step up the challenge with the windows closed. How many socks can you win?

This app was developed for children in grades preK–5 by Illuminations. It is also available as an online activity along with many other free math resources for children at http://illuminations.nctm.org

Okta's Rescue Oh, no! Okta and his friends need help. Help rescue them by transporting them to a safe ocean. How fast can you transport the Oktas? Use your counting skills to save as many as you can before the timer runs out.

This app was developed for children in grades preK–2 by Illuminations. It is also available as an online activity along with many other free math resources for children at http://illuminations.nctm.org.

Undecided

This app has everything you need to make a difficult decision easier. It's six amazing and slick utilities can help you decide the undecided - whatever that might be. This app can also be a game saver if you've lost an important piece of a board game.

Utility Features Include:
- 6-sided die - roll up to 6 dice at once
- Coin Flip - allows you to keep tally of heads and tails
- Spinner
- Straw Pull
- Rock, Paper, Scissors (paid version only)
- Lehmer Algorithm Random Number Generator (Change max value in paid version)

Number Rack The Number Rack facilitates the natural development of children’s number sense. Rows of moveable, colored beads encourage learners to think in groups of fives and tens, helping them to explore and discover a variety of addition and subtraction strategies.

This virtual version of the manipulative is an open-ended educational tool, ideal for elementary classrooms and other learning environments that use iPod Touches, iPhones, or iPads.

Friends of 10

Little Monkey Apps Friends of Ten is an activity to be used in the early years of schooling to introduce an early understanding of numbers to ten, counting objects to ten, subitising - recognising a collection of objects without counting them, counting on from a higher number, partitioning of objects and the combinations that make ten 8+2, 2+8, 1+9, 3+7 etc. These skills underpin mental addition and subtraction.

Pattern Blocks by Braincamp

Virtual pattern blocks include: triangles, squares, rhombi, trapezoids, hexagons, and chevrons.

Dominoes Easy Match

Designed and tested by educators and parents of young children, Dominoes Easy Match is an engaging and simple way to learn about numbers one through nine.

Dominoes Easy Match, the first of four levels included in We Come to Learn's Dominoes Number Match game, is offered free here as an introduction to counting and number recognition. The player simply matches numerals to corresponding sets of dots. Built-in instructional audio supports the learner with both identification of numerals and counting.

**Move beyond counting by 1's to more efficient strategies with number!**

Your child can now count objects up to a high number, perhaps 50 or even higher. Now what? The mathematical big idea of subitizing is "instantly seeing how many." The tasks in this app are designed to develop this big idea by flashing a graphic of objects on screen for a limited amount of time before vanishing. This constraint makes counting all objects a much less efficient strategy for the child. The learner must invent strategies that help him/her to see quantity in more flexible ways. This activity fosters development of number sense by facilitating progression towards this flexibility with number. In particular, children decompose and compose numbers in various ways. For example, seeing 13 as 6 + 6 + 1 or 5 + 5 + 3. Subitizing also helps develop the ideas of addition and subtraction.

Math Tapper: Find Sums

MathTappers: Find Sums is a simple game designed to help learners to make sense of addition (and subtraction as a related operation), and then to support them in developing accuracy and improving their speed.

10 Frame Fill

"10 Frame Fill" provides children practice with recognizing additive "10 Families" (e.g., 1 and 9, 2 and 8, etc.). Set the 10 Frame to fill in sequence or randomly. Use contrasting color chips to fill the 10 frame as you determine the answer.

CosmicCountersLite

Teachers designed Cosmic Counters based on the Common Core State Standards. This game will have students keep track of counting, see number relationships, learn addition to 10, and develop skills needed to learn place value.

Using ten frames and counters will develop students' subitizing skills, the ability to instantly recognize a number without using other mathematical processes. This skill plays a fundamental role in the development of students' understanding of numbers.

Kids Numbers and Math Lite

Help your preschool and early elementary school children learn their numbers and master basic arithmetic skills with Kids Numbers and Math. Over a million children have already played Kids Numbers and Math and it is finally available in the App Store. This package of brightly designed, pleasantly narrated number recognition and math games is made with little hands and budding mathematicians in mind.
