It is now official - the OHSAA has posted updates to their state record book for Ice Hockey and Zach Mandry is listed as the career leader in Goals Scored for the state of Ohio. During his four year career as a Comet Zach scored a total of 220 goals which is now #1 in the state record book. In addition he is listed as #2 and #9 for goals scored a single season with 80 in 2015-16 and 69 in 2014-15. Zach is also listed among the leaders for points scored in a season and a career. Despite an early 2 goal lead, the Comets came up short against tough Red North opponent Hudson by a score of 5-8. Zach Mandry led with 4 goals and Alex Wu added another goal and two assists to round out the Comets' scoring effort.
The team remains tied for first in the Red South Division and heads to Thornton Park on Friday to take an another Red North opponent, Shaker Heights, at 7:00 pm. Come out to Shaker and support the team - we hope to see you there! Head. Heart. Hustle.

The Comets Hockey team won big today against league rival Western Reserve Academy, outscoring the Pioneers 7-2 and firmly securing their place atop the Red South division. The team was led by Senior Alex Wu who netted a hat trick and an assist. Zach Mandry added two goals while Ricky Formani and Niko Wu each provided an additional goal. Goalie Mark Shannon saved 28 of 30 shots, earning him a 93% save average for the game.
Mandry's two goals (career goal 194 and 195) resulted in him tying and then breaking the OHSAA all-time leading goal scorer in a career record. He surpassed Rocky River's Eric Sperli, who previously held the record with 194 goals scored through 2009-2013.
The Comets will host the Strongsville Mustangs on Tuesday, January 12th at 6:00pm at Gilmour Ice Arena. Come out and support your team!

Solon hosts the 11th Annual Holiday Ice Hockey Tournament at the Gilmour ice rink December 26-28. Solon plays on Saturday, Dec. 26 at 1:45pm vs. Chagrin Falls. The team takes the ice again on Sunday at 12:00pm against Midview and 6:00pm vs. Orange. The tournament will conclude on Monday with game times to be determined. The other teams competing in the tournament are Chagrin Falls, Midview and Orange high schools. The Solon Comets Ice Hockey team won its second straight league game Friday night beating Mentor in Mentor with a 4-1 score. Prior to this win, Solon bested Kent Roosevelt in their third meeting in a week with a score of 7-4.
The Roosevelt game started evenly with both teams skating to a 2-2 tie after the first period. Following a scoreless second period, the Comets unleashed, scoring 5 unanswered points in the third period before Roosevelt scored one additional goal to end the game. Comets were led by Senior Zach Mandry with four goals and Senior Ricky Formani with three goals, Formani's first high school career hat trick. Senior Alex Wu had two assists and Freshman Michael Zinamon had one.
Friday in Mentor, the Comets started slow and were down by one goal after the first period but evened up the game at 1-1 at the end of the second period. The team dominated in the third, scoring three unanswered goal to seal their second win in the Red-South Division. Mandry had a hat trick and Wu had a goal and an assist. The team is now 2-0 in conference play.
Other notable performances included goalie Mark Shannon's 24 saves on 25 shots against Mentor.

Solon Comets Hockey bested Kent Roosevelt in the championship game of this weekend's Adam S. Hamilton Memorial Tournament at Kent State's Ice Arena on Sunday. The Comets were led by Mark Shannon in net with a 25 saves and a shutout, Andrew Oliver scored the winning goal in the 2nd period and Zach Mandry also netted a goal in the 3rd for a final score of 2-0. The win is a first for the Comet team in this tournament and comes off a second place finish in Rocky River's annual Thanksgiving tournament. The Comets open their regular season schedule on Thursday at 7:00pm at Kent Ice Arena against Kent Roosevelt (again!). Come out and support the team.
