In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl, the NFL has awarded golden footballs to the high school of players who have participated in the game. We are proud to recognize the accomplishments of Jim Mandich who was a member of 4 Super Bowl teams with the Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers and Kim Herring who played in 2 Super Bowls with the Baltimore Ravens and St. Louis Rams.

The Solon Comets will play in the second round of the 2015 OHSAA Football Tournament on Saturday night at the University of Akron’s InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field. The Comets, sitting at 9-2, will take on the undefeated Stow Bulldogs in a Division I, Region 1 matchup. Solon and Stow meet for the eleventh time overall on Saturday and the first time in the post season.
Tickets for the game on Saturday will be available later in the week.

The Solon Comets have advanced to the OHSAA Football Playoffs for the 20th time in school history. Solon will host Olentangy Liberty on Saturday night at Stewart Field. Game time is set for 7:00p. The Comets have finished the regular season with an 8-2 record and a Greater Cleveland Conference title.

With Solon's 49-14 win over Medina at Stewart Field, the Comets have advanced to the OHSAA Football Tournament for the 20th time in school history. Friday night's win also gave the Comets a share of the 2015 Greater Cleveland Conference title. Solon will be playing at Stewart Field on Saturday night against an opponent to be determined this weekend. The Solon Comets visited Shaker Heights last Saturday afternoon for the ninth game of the season. Johnny Mooney contributed to all three of Solon’s touchdowns as he threw two and ran for one. David Sebuke was perfect on extra point and booted a 29 yard field goal. Solon’s defense held the Raiders to 199 yards and no points. With last week’s 25-0 win, the Comets are now one win away from the first Greater Cleveland Conference football championship trophy and have clinched a playoff berth. This week, the Comets will be in action against Medina. The varsity Bees travel to Stewart Field on Friday night for the final game of the regular season. Solon’s Freshman, coming off a 14-8 win against Shaker Heights, will travel to Medina on Thursday for a 4:30p kickoff. The JV squad will play at Medina on Saturday morning at 10:00a.

Solon’s Tim Harmody racked up 18 tackles in the Comets’ 28-20 win over Elyria last Friday night at Ely Stadium. Solon improves to 6-2 on the year after the Week Eight win. The Comets will take on Shaker Heights on Saturday afternoon at 2:00p. This will be Solon’s second trip to Rupp Field in as many seasons.

The JV and Freshman Comets were both victorious over Elyria. The Freshman won 32-20 and the JVs won 31-20. Both teams will be in action against Shaker Heights this week at Solon. The Freshman will have a 4:30p kickoff on Thursday and the JVs will play at 4:00p on Friday.

Last week in the seventh game of the season, Solon defeated Strongsville, 38-14, to move to 5-2 on the year. This week, the team will visit Elyria for another Greater Cleveland Conference contest.

Solon’s JV and Freshman squads both came up short against Strongsville. The JV’s fell 14-12 and the Freshman went down 33-0. Both teams will take on Elyria this week at Stewart Field. The Freshman will have a 4:30p kickoff on Thursday and the JV’s will play at 10:00a on Saturday.

The Solon Comets defeated the Mentor Cardinals on Friday night for the first time since 2010, by a score of 42-35. Solon improved to 4-2 on the year and will host Strongsville on Friday night in the annual Homecoming game.

Solon’s Freshman and JV teams both fell short against Mentor, last week. The JV’s lost by a score of 12-7 and the Freshman went down, 27-15. This week both teams will be in action against Strongsville at Pat Catan Stadium. The Freshman will play on Thursday at 4:30p and the JV team will kick off at 10:00a on Saturday.
